How To Turn On SMTP AUTHENTICATION and Change SMTP Port to 587

In Microsoft Outlook & Outlook Express:

1. Start Outlook or Outlook Express.
2. From the menu, select Tools.
3. In the Tools Menu select Accounts.
4. In the Accounts windows, click on the Mail tab.
5. Click once on the appropriate account from the Mail tab to highlight it.
6. Select Properties.
7. From the account properties dialog box, choose the Servers tab.
8. Put a check in the box for "My server requires authentication".
9. Click on the Settings button.
10. In the 'Outgoing Mail Server' dialog box, make sure "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" is selected.
11. Click 'OK'.
11. On the Properties window, click on the Advanced tab to find the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) port options.
12. Change the Outgoing mail (SMTP) port from 25 to 587.
12. Click Apply, then OK.
13. Close the Accounts window by clicking on the X in the upper right hand corner of the window.
